Perfect Pitch Belt

I am developing a haptic belt to give the user perfect pitch.
Above is an early prototype which used a haptic vest designed for VR applications. It’s motors were too powerful and the vest was heavy. The new design uses a repurposed running belt with added microcontroller and coin-cell haptic feedback motors.
The concept in brief:
- The belt has a microphone that listens out for notes
- If it detects a note it will vibrate in a specific location
- e.g. C# is front left, B is front right
- The motor has 12 motors spaced evenly - one for each note
- The wearer begins to associate the note with a location
- Over a training period, the wearer will gain “perfect pitch” - the ability to identify notes by ear
- Long term the user no longer needs to wear the belt, since their brain has re-wired to learn perfect pitch naturally
- ???
- Profit
Below is a video from the first prototype using the modified VR vest. Demoed at Augmented Humans Conference 2023.
